Tutorial: How to install an .exe file to your mobile phone

So I have found that, like myself, there have been many people out there in the world who don't know how to install things to their phones.I am sure there are many different file types, but the ones I have commonly come across so far are .jar, .cab and .exe files.

This is the tutorial on how to install a .exe file to your phone. For this tutorial I am assuming that you have free storage (which is required) on your phone, in either internal memory or memory card. The tutorial is also designed for the operating system Windows on your computer, and Windows Mobile 6.1 on the phone (however, many things should be the same for other versions of pocket pc).

Do this on your computer!
  1. Find the file you want to download. Download the file. This is for the program that you want to install. Important: read next step!
  2. Save the file in a safe place. I noticed for some of my files, after I installed them, when I tried to delete the .cab file off my computer I recieved error messages and warnings. Also, do NOT rename the file you downloaded, I've noticed some programs have issues with this.
  3. Sync your phone with your computer. If you have never done this before, there may be a few necessary steps to take first. These may include any CD software that came with the phone, or downloading the software from the manufacturers website. Generally I suggest installing all recommeded software. If you have already synced, and any necessary software is installed, it should come up with some sort of sync options etc depending on your phone.
  4. Browse using windows explorer to the file on your desktop.
  5. Double click the .exe file.
  6. Following the installation steps. You should all be quite familiar with these steps, but as a recap just press 'I Agree' whenever needed, 'Next' to go to each page and so forth.

Most installations will then tell you to check your phone for any other necessary steps to be taken. Do this on your phone!

  1. Agree and click all the way through until installed. If it asks for a location to be installed, most programs work best or require to be installed on the device. But some can be installed upon the actual memory card if you prefer. If it asks for a soft reset, just turn your phone on and off. A soft reset is like a computer restart.

The program should have now installed itself. You may need to browse to the program folder and click on it to start it, but it should be there and it should now work.

Congratulations, and now go have fun.
